A Brief Proof of the Full Completeness of Shin's Venn Diagram Proof System
In a article in the Journal of Philosophical Logic in 1996, “Towards a Model Theory of Venn Diagrams,” (Vol. 25, No. 5, pp. 463–482), Hammer and Danner proved the full completeness of Shin’s formal system for reasoning with Venn Diagrams. Their proof is eight pages long. This note gives a brief 5 line proof of this same result, using connections between diagrammatic and sentential representations.
متن کاملThe explanatory power of a new proof: Henkin’s completeness proof
This paper takes up both halves of that statement. On the one hand we provide a case study of the explanatory value of a particular milestone proof. In the process we examine how it began the recasting of a discipline. Hafner and Mancosu take a broad view towards the nature of mathematical explanation. They argue that before attempting to establish a model of explanation, one should develop a ‘...
متن کاملA Semantic Completeness Proof for TaMeD
Deduction modulo is a theoretical framework designed to introduce computational steps in deductive systems. This approach is well suited to automated theorem proving and a tableau method for firstorder classical deduction modulo has been developed. We reformulate this method and give an (almost constructive) semantic completeness proof. This new proof allows us to extend the completeness theore...
متن کاملProof-Theoretic Soundness and Completeness
We give a calculus for reasoning about the first-order fragment of classical logic that is adequate for giving the truth conditions of intuitionistic Kripke frames, and outline a proof-theoretic soundness and completeness proof, which we believe is conducive to automation. 1 A Semantic Calculus for Intuitionistic Kripke Models In Rothenberg (2010), we use correspondence theory (Blackburn et al....
متن کاملConcurrent Games and Full Completeness
A new concurrent form of game semantics is introduced. This overcomes the problems which had arisen with previous, sequential forms of game semantics in modelling Linear Logic. It also admits an elegant and robust formalization. A Full Completeness Theorem for Multiplicative-Additive Linear Logic is proved for this semantics.
